To hedge against inflation
Speculation around potential inflation under a Trump 2.0 presidency centers on policies like tax cuts and increased tariffs, which could impact the dollar's purchasing power by raising prices.
In response to inflation, the most basic instinct is to spend quickly to capture current value, but the wealthy often protect themselves by holding appreciating assets that outpace inflation. This could mean owning public equities, gold, or even Bitcoin.
The riskiest thing to do is keep “non-essential cash reserves” in a savings account over a prolonged period of time, as inflation will erode its value.
For those able to forgo liquidity, investing in a diversified basket of credible startups may offer a pathway to beat inflation. Currently, this product doesn’t exist under Regulation D and RegCF, but it should and, with the expected SEC reforms, this might be a reality in the coming years.
