Weekly Roundup: Will you accept this deal? šŸŒ¹

Your April 12 Doriot Weekly Roundup. AI is coming for corporate MBA's everywhere, we examine the importance of community in startup investing, and sharing an update on DVC's review of Offline.

Happy Friday, DVC! This week Bloomberg reported that OpenAI is seeing ā€œtremendous growthā€ in ChatGPT Enterprise - a corporate version of ChatGPT. Itā€™s a game-changer for AI adoption, as it confirms that robotic answers hallucinating with 50% accuracy are indistinguishable from 90% of human C-Suite interactions.

Itā€™s never been a scarier time to be a Wharton-educated Chief Director of Synergistic Communications.

Startup Discussion & Weekly Poll:

Last week I was lucky to be featured on the Next Big Thing HQ podcast with the great Connor Fata! Connor is an incredibly thoughtful and well-researched interviewer, and we had a blast covering topics like Doriotā€™s background, perceptions of equity crowdfunding, and the future of retail VC.

Side Note: Connor was very kind to imply in the title that I am currently a ā€œSmart Investorā€ā€¦ when in reality Iā€™m still working towards the ā€œMildly Competentā€ badge. Doesnā€™t play as well with the YouTube algorithm thoughā€¦.

Thereā€™s one topic Iā€™ve been thinking about since our call: how to build better communities in the equity crowdfunding space. As Connor said, thereā€™s millions being invested on platforms like Wefunder and StartEngine, but itā€™s hard to find the people behind the dollars.

We talked about how r/WallStreetBets, despite its flaws and dopamine-fueled risk taking, is an active community with organization, knowledge sharing, and the power to literally move markets.

That doesnā€™t seem to exist yet in RegCF.

But it couldā€¦ and itā€™s what we aim to build with Doriot.

With your help, we want to create the #1 place for sharing ideas, meeting fellow startup enthusiasts, and putting concepts into real-world action. But perhaps with more focus on ā€œdiversificationā€ and less on ā€œtaking out a 2nd mortgage to execute a short squeeze on Gamestopā€ :)

So, we humbly present 2 asks today:

Last Weekā€™s Results:

Last week we asked if having ā€œno red flagsā€ automatically makes a startup a ā€œgood dealā€ā€¦ and 66% of you said ā€œNo - itā€™s just a starting point!ā€ šŸ™…

In Reality TV terms, the Red Flag Checklist is just Step 1 to see which startups will make it through the rose ceremonyšŸŒ¹

Step 2 is watching drama unfold in the house (the Wefunder Q&A) to see whoā€™s ā€œhere for the right reasonsā€ šŸ•µļø

Step 3 is telling Jesse Palmer that this is ā€œthe hardest decision of your lifeā€ before just investing in the one with the most Instagram followers šŸ“±
