The Problem:
As discussed in Sepia’s history and in a profile of the founder, the city of Detroit has a storied yet difficult past.
Dubbed the “Paris of the Midwest” before becoming a manufacturing powerhouse of the American auto industry, Detroit has suffered decades of high unemployment, poverty, and crime rates after extensive middle-class job losses.
The Solution:
To revitalize his hometown of Highland Park (an enclave of Detroit), Martell Mason founded The Sepia Coffee Project - the neighborhood’s first specialty coffee roaster and cafe.
With Martell’s extensive coffee knowledge, Sepia uses high-quality, ethically-sourced beans from around the world to deliver a premium coffee experience to a historically underserved community.
